The Bioactive Natural Products Center of Excellence (BNPCE) will directly and indirectly increase profitability and sustainability of agricultural production and agricultural communities in the region. All agricultural producers will directly benefit from the work of the BNPCE through the use of safer, more efficient and cost-effective pest control products.

Production of the high-valued crops for use in bioactive natural pesticides will be targeted toward production areas historically dependent on declining tobacco income. New bioactive crops, destined for introduction, will be good matches for the acreage, management, machinery, labor and climate requirements of tobacco producing areas.

The BNPCE will also provide production expertise, marketing assistance and technologies to assist in transitioning these areas into production of crops for bioactive natural pesticides.
