Plants, insects and microorganisms ensure their survival by producing an arsenal of natural chemical weapons to escape herbivores, predators and competitors. For millennia, man has harnessed the benefit of these bioactive natural products in agriculture and medicine. Today, these products are still used as valued sources of new compounds in these industries. BNPCE researchers are helping agriculture achieve and maintain the critical goal of sustainability by developing highly effective, environmentally friendly, low-toxicity bioactive natural products as viable alternatives to conventional chemical pesticides for the efficient control of agricultural diseases and pests.
